The Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute is a proud publisher of books and resources that amplify and celebrate African Nova Scotian history and heritage. It’s a privilege to work with writers and illustrators to develop this literature. If you have an idea or a complete manuscript that you’d like to pitch to us as a potential publication, please first read the guidelines below.

  • Our 2023 catalogue is full and any manuscripts we receive will be considered potential publications for 2024 and beyond.

  • We are an Africentric publisher. Please review our values to get a better understanding of what that means and the books and resources we’re focused on publishing.

  • There’s no need to send in a full manuscript (unless it is a short children’s book) for your submission.
  • To ensure legibility, all submissions must be typed.

All submissions must include a biography or cover page of 150 words or less and the most up-to-date contact information so we can get in touch with you once your work has been reviewed.

  • Synopsis (a brief overview of the manuscript in question that does not exceed 500 words)
  • Three sample chapters or sections

Unless you are also an illustrator, please do not include illustrations with your submission.

  • Please state if there’s an overall theme to the body of work.
  • Please submit no more than six poems for review and no less than four.
Please send no more than four digital samples or a link to your work.

We will do our best to get back to you within 60 days of receiving your submission. Our turnaround time will depend on the volume of projects underway when your work is received. We appreciate your patience!
