The DBDLI is an Africentric institute that creates educational change for learners of African ancestry to empower them to reach their full potential.
Improving educational experiences, opportunities and outcomes for Nova Scotian learners of African ancestry.
Build and strengthen relationships to improve understanding of community and to increase community understanding of DBDLI.
Provide support for lifelong learning that is flexible and diverse. Promote the continuous development and improvement of the knowledge and skills needed for employment and personal fulfillment.
Increase the awareness of what the DBDLI does with the goal of developing partnerships with post-secondary institutions for the development and delivery of relevant programs.
Develop leadership/mentorship programs that reach rural and urban African Nova Scotian youth. Establis a DBDLI youth council (Yuzi Baraza).
Develop an inventory of Africentric resources for use in the public school system. Contribute to future resource development through a writers’ pool and internship programs.
Use DBDLI social media and website to promote DBDLI and community partners. Develop a governance operating business plan to support sustainability.
