Legacy in Action: Ubuntu, Education, and Black Brilliance in Innovation

The Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute (DBDLI) presents Dr. Rita Orji—Canada Research Chair in Persuasive Technology, Director of the Persuasive Computing Lab, and globally recognized AI for Social Good researcher—as this year’s distinguished speaker. Dr. Orji, received the NSERC Arthur B. McDonald Fellowship in 2024 – Canada’s highest award given to ECR in Science and Engineering. Also, she’s named among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University (2020-2024), is an award-winning scholar dedicated to designing human-centered technologies that empower underserved communities.

Dr. Rita Orji will explore:

🔹 AI for Social Good – How AI-driven innovations can promote equity, bridge gaps, and uplift marginalized communities.

🔹 Empowering Black Brilliance – Leveraging technology, mentorship, and Africentric approaches to uplift Black scholars and professionals.

Dr. George Sefa Dei, DBDLI’s Extraordinary Fellow of Africentric Research (e-FAR) and a leading anti-racist scholar will also present a brief reflection on Ubuntu’s role in education, emphasizing inclusivity, collective wisdom, and transformative learning.
