We are pleased to share the successful submissions from our African Nova Scotian Voices Speaking competition, which encouraged applicants to get creative by submitting a 3-minute video celebrating International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD). One of the requirements for the videos was to relate to the 3 pillars in the Decade for the People of African Descent (United Nations) which are: Recognition, Justice, Development.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – March 21 aims to remind people of racial discrimination’s negative consequences. It challenges people to remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination.

African Nova Scotian Voices Speaking was an invitation to Nova Scotian learners of African ancestry to raise their voices and share their stories.

All learners in schools and communities are invited to learn from these stories and add their action to promote equity across all backgrounds and cultures.

Without further ado, here are the winners and their video submissions!
