Building from the successes and the learnings of the Ancestral Roots ™ Awards (2018) and our Ancestral Roots™ Regional Summits (2019), The Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute is thrilled to announce its third signature event under the Ancestral Roots umbrella – The Ancestral Roots™ Symposium: Intergenerational Learning for Transformative Leadership! The Ancestral Roots™ Symposium is focused on bridging the gap between generations regarding learning and personal transformation. This two day opportunity will support  young adult leaders (ages 18 to 35) of African ancestry to grow their leadership talents and strengths, and to foster cross-campus relationship building. The key themes of the gathering are: Education, Health, Social Justice, and Human Rights.

Each day will include a keynote and interactive breakout sessions. Our confirmed keynotes for the symposium are Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard, a Canadian senator, and Dr. OmiSoore Dryden, the James R. Johnston Chair in Black Canadian Studies in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Break out sessions will be facilitated by both elder and young adult community leaders who can create culturally safe space to unpack difficult topics and experiences they may have faced or are currently facing and how it regards their academic journey. The full agenda as well as additional information will be made available on the DBDLI website in mid-October.

All participants will be mailed “swag boxes” on November 4, 2020 that contain the information needed for the symposium well as merchandise and memorabilia by Black entrepreneurs to hold onto once the symposium is over.

The first 50 individuals to register and attend will receive a $25.00 gift card in the mail upon completion of the symposium. Capacity is limited so be sure to scan the QR code on the flyer to register before it’s too late! Don’t have an E-scanner? Click the Register Now button!

We can’t wait to see you all (virtually) there 😊!
