The Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute (DBDLI) invites our communities to share an important employment opportunity. We’re hiring for a new position: the Cross-Departmental Administrative Assistant (Youth, Africentric Learning and Communications, and Finance).

At DBDLI, our mission is to create educational change and genuine opportunities for learners and communities of African Nova Scotian (ANS) and African ancestry to reach their full potential. We are seeking a caring, values-driven team member who believes deeply in the power of education to heal, affirm, and uplift African Nova Scotian communities.

The Cross-Departmental Administrative Assistant (Youth, Africentric Learning and Communications, and Finance) supports multiple department Managers within DBDLI. The right person would ideally have a diploma in Business Administration as well as 2-3 years administrative and basic bookkeeping experience in a not-for-profit organization, or a mix of experience and applied learning. The Cross-Departmental Administrative Assistant provides tactical administrative, logistical, and coordination support across three interconnected departments: Africentric Learning & Communications, Youth Programming & Engagement, and Finance & Accounting.

Broad areas of responsibility for this role include:

  • Cross-Departmental Coordination (Youth, Africentric Learning & Communications, and Finance)
  • Administration, Communications, and Documentation Support
  • Youth and Africentric Learning Program Support, Community Engagement, and Partner Support
  • Payroll, A/R, A/P Support

Ideally the right person would have experience:

  • Using a variety of communication styles, media channels, and technology platforms, such as Zoom, Canva, and database management systems.
  • Strong skills in project coordination, event and program logistics, and inclusive communication.
  • Experience in and genuine engagement with African Nova Scotian and African Canadian communities.

Thinking about soft skills, the person will have:

  • A commitment to learning about and applying an Africentric worldview, complemented by strong communication, active listening, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational, adaptability, and detail orientation skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems effectively, and work both independently and collaboratively.

This is a Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm hybrid position with remote work on Fridays. This position offers the following: $23.08 per hour to start with pay increase opportunities, cost-shared medical benefits, extensive learning and continued professional development opportunities, and an environment genuinely grounded in shared humanity.
