We are pleased to announce our first annual African Nova Scotian Communities Ancestral Roots Awards: Recognizing Young Adult Leaders. This ceremonial event is to give recognition to upcoming community rooted African Nova Scotian leaders. These youthful leaders have helped to shape and positively influence their respected communities.

Many strengths and assets are apparent within African Nova Scotian communities and the Ancestral Roots Awards seeks to pay tribute to under-acknowledged, yet exceptional, young African Nova Scotian leaders to validate their achievements, and to drive continued growth within our African Nova Scotian Communities.

The Ancestral Roots Awards is part of the Institute’s mandate to creatively engage African Nova Scotian young adults to foster their development as positive change agents within their communities. Through this initiative, we are sending a call for nominations to African Nova Scotian communities across the province.

African Nova Scotia youth between ages 19 to 30 are eligible for nomination in 1 of the 12 categories. For information on the 12 categories, please download the application form found below.

All nominees and award winners will be personally invited to attend the ceremony. Travel stipends are available for nominees and award winners residing outside of the Halifax Regional Municipality as needed.

Community members are welcome to attend the ceremony for the cost of $25.00. Both the dinner and the dance are included in this price. If you wish to only attend the dance portion of the evening, you are welcome to purchase a ticket in advance for $10.00 or $15.00 at the door. Tickets will be available for purchase upon the nomination deadline.

To nominate a member of your community, please complete our online application form by Sunday April 22, 2018, 11:59PM. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
